The problems with buying or finding boxes
Buying boxes can be expensive, especially since they are used once and then discarded. It is also the least environmentally friendly option.
Certainly getting free boxes from your friends and family, or sourcing them from supermarkets, is the cheapest option. But this does come with problems.
Firstly, its a lot of work and time asking around, finding them, and getting them home.
But secondly and more importantly, it may cost you more when it comes time to move. This is because free boxes generally come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and this makes it really hard for movers to stack efficiently and quickly in the truck. This means more cost at moving time.
So, how can you save time and money getting moving boxes?
Hiring your moving boxes means that you’ll save money and time. You’ll also help save the environment which we think is pretty cool.
With proper moving boxes, you’ll have the right size boxes for your things to be efficiently stacked in the truck so you won’t pay extra in time or additional trips when it comes to moving your things.
Some moving companies (including us) will even drop them off to your home, and then pick them up for you once you are all done.
Hiring boxes is environmentally friendly
So what are the other advantages of hiring boxes instead of buying them?
Aside from saving time and money, hiring your boxes is an environmentally friendly option. After a big move there are lots of unwanted cardboard boxes and many people will throw them away – or hopefully recycle them.
In fact did you know, an estimated kiwis move house some 850,000 times each year? With an average 60 boxes per house, that’s some 51 million cardboard boxes used each year!!
However, if you hire your boxes, they will get many uses before needing to be recycled.
If you don’t want to hire your boxes, we do encourage you to donate your boxes when you are finished so they can be reused before needing to be recycled.
Where can I hire moving boxes from?
We are excited that as of November 2023 we are one of the few moving companies in Aotearoa New Zealand to offer the hire of moving boxes. Based in Christchurch, we’ll come and drop the boxes directly to you in your home, and pick them up from you once you’re done.
